Today Part 2!

I have good news... I figured out what caused the flare.... I'm not 100% sure but pretty darn sure.

Remember a few months back, I went for food sensitivity testing to help me along with this process?  Well my big red flags were Corn, refined sugar, banana, orange, chocolate and my beloved caffeine.

I have been taking 2 Vitamin D pills every morning.  Sometimes one, sometimes two, sometimes one at breakfast and one at lunch.... anyhow, I changed it up and have been taking 3 pills at night right before bed.  I have been doing this for about 4 or 5 days....  and I checked today when I realized that it was the only new thing I've done and guess what it has in it....  CORN!!  Yikes.  My number one food to avoid.

Problem solved!  I am going back to the way I was eating and avoiding my Vitamin D's for a few days!  I will get a good quality replacement with no corn!

Big sigh of relief!  I was starting to go crazy!

  1. That is a frustrating thing about supplements. For vitamin D I would suggest one by NOW that is a gel capsule with the vitamin D dissolved in olive oil. You can see on the ingredient list the capsule, vitamin D and olive oil are the only ingredients and it's free from soy, wheat, corn etc. Vitamin D is fat soluble so having it already dissolved in oil is good too.

Hope this means you can eat more variety!

  2. @ kat: Thanks for the recommendation!! Yes, it takes some of the pressure off and means I can go back to the way I was eating. What a process!

  3. Jen, I've been reading about your journey with interest. I came across your site via Healing Our Guts who has a link to The SCD Girl who has a link to your site! When I read about your discovery today, I wanted to share my friend KC's site: http://www.livingitupcornfree.com/. She knows everything about corn. It's scary. I am doing the Gut and Psychology Syndrome Diet (GAPS), for almost one year now, initially to help gain back my energy and stop the depression and anxiety attacks. I have been very successful, and lost fifty pounds. But my newest ailment is sore thumb joints, which I fear is arthritis. I suspect nuts due to the phytic acid and have removed nuts from my diet for the month of November to see. I am already rather limited as to what I do eat, so it makes me sad to give up nuts, too. I was eating a lot of them as quick snacks, so hopefully I will be able to tolerate them on occasion. Anyway, just wanted to comment and say hi and keep up the good work!

  4. So happy to have found your blog today! I believe so strongly in alternative therapies and food choices. It has been very hard to find a doctor that will work with both the medical world and natural world theories. I am excited to follow your journey.
